Expanding Locus globally isn’t just about reaching new clients or markets—it’s about building diverse, resilient teams that tap into regional insights and expertise to drive long-term success. The true strength of any business lies in its people. As our company grows, nurturing talent and fostering a global workforce is crucial to maintaining a competitive edge that transcends borders.

Headquartered in Silicon Valley, among the world’s most influential tech companies, global expansion was a natural path for Locus Technologies. The rapid pace of globalization has significantly shifted how businesses operate. Companies are no longer confined to their home markets; they’re tapping into new talent pools, driving innovation, and scaling operations efficiently. A global team brings diverse perspectives, enhances creativity, and helps businesses like ours meet client needs more effectively. At Locus, we gain a broader understanding of the environmental challenges facing all regions of the world, the advancements in technology that can effectively tackle those challenges, and the relevant regulations and frameworks imposed by local governments. We are able to bring this well-rounded knowledge to every implementation.

Building and managing a global team requires more than just hiring in new locations. It demands a strategic approach that accounts for cultural differences, communication barriers, and the integration of these teams within our existing company structure. Locus Technologies strategically focused on three distinct markets for global growth: Croatia, India, and Vietnam.

Here are some insights into why we chose these regions and the experiences we’ve gained over the past decade.

Croatia

In recent years, Croatia has evolved from a tourism-centric economy to a rising tech hub in Europe – almost like the “Silicon Valley” of the EU. Cities like Zagreb and Split are attracting startups and digital businesses, drawing young professionals eager to work for international companies. Croatia’s workforce is highly educated, multilingual, and, in the past, many professionals had to relocate to larger EU cities for global career opportunities. Today, the appeal of working from Croatia’s beautiful coastal cities while maintaining a healthy work-life balance is a major draw.

Our founder, Neno Duplan, who has Croatian ancestry, has helped us establish strong connections with local universities. This access allowed us to recruit top talent directly from the country’s best schools. Neno’s deep understanding of the local culture guided us in building a strong, collaborative team and gaining the trust of new employees who joined Locus Technologies. As Croatia continues its transformation into a European tech powerhouse, we are excited to be part of this journey—bridging global innovation with local expertise.

India

India is a powerhouse of talent, with a rapidly growing tech industry and booming sectors such as healthcare, education, and e-commerce. With a population of over 1.4 billion, India offers a vast pool of skilled professionals. However, India’s immense cultural, linguistic, and regional diversity presents unique challenges.

To navigate these, we decided to focus on a specific region: Rajasthan. Due to my own ancestral ties to this area, we chose Jaipur, the state capital, to build our team. Jaipur lies away from the fierce talent competition of major Indian metro cities, making it easier to attract skilled professionals who are interested in growing with our company. Additionally, offering flexibility through remote work has been a strong draw for employees.

By fostering a culture of trust, regular check-ins, and integration with the broader company, we created a cohesive and successful team in India.

Vietnam

Vietnam’s rapidly growing economy and youthful population make it a promising destination for business expansion. With strong work ethics and increasing digital literacy, Vietnam proved to be the ideal location to build a dynamic team in Southeast Asia.

Our CEO’s goal was for Locus Technologies to operate 24/7—this made Vietnam an essential piece of the puzzle. The country boasts one of the youngest populations globally, with a high percentage of workers in their 20s and 30s, making it an attractive market for tech companies looking for motivated and adaptable employees.

Conclusion

From a cultural perspective, our team in Silicon Valley has strong connections with the Vietnamese diaspora, which helped us understand the culture better and manage the team effectively. We chose Ho Chi Minh City for its vibrant talent pool and a culture rooted in respect, strong work ethic, and teamwork.  Understanding this dynamic was crucial in developing a cooperative, high-functioning team in Vietnam.

As we continue to expand internationally, our most valuable asset isn’t just our product or market presence—it’s our people. With operations in Croatia, India, and Vietnam, each region presents unique opportunities and challenges, but with the right strategy, they have become integral to our global success. Today, we take pride in being a truly global company, where daily collaboration between teams across different time zones drives innovation and efficiency.

By fostering cultural understanding, prioritizing professional development, and maintaining open communication, we have built a collaborative and agile workforce that not only strengthens our company culture but also enhances our product. As our teams continue to grow across diverse regions, we are better equipped to navigate an increasingly interconnected world and deliver real value to our customers.

At the heart of our success is a simple principle: invest in people. When our teams thrive, so does our business—and that’s what makes us stronger on the global stage.

The brightest minds in environmental science, embodied carbon, CO2 emissions, refrigerants, and PFAS hang their hats at Locus, and they’ve helped us to become a market leader in compliance and ESG reporting software. Every client-facing employee at Locus has an advanced degree in science or professional EHS experience, and they incubate new ideas every day – such as how machine learning, AI, blockchain, and the Internet of Things will up the ante for EHS, ESG reporting software, and sustainability.
