Earlier this year, I became the longest serving employee at Locus Technologies (besides the founder, of course). I started with Locus in 2003 – that’s 22 years ago! The average tenure at a computer job in 2024 was 4.3 years. So why have I stayed at Locus for so long?

  • Vision: Locus has never wavered from its vision of managing environmental data. We provide tools to customers to bring their data into one central system to support data visualization, reporting, and analysis. Our applications support diverse goals such as water quality, refrigerant management, waste tracking, and sustainable construction. Recent events have shown the fragility of the Earth’s ecosystem, and I am proud to help preserve our environment by contributing to Locus applications.
  • Technology: Locus keeps up to date with the latest technology and is often ahead of the times. Locus was an early adopter of multi-tenant databases (1997), software as a service (1999), mobile technology (2000), and geographical information systems (2003). In the last few years, we’ve explored IoT (Internet of Things), augmented reality, and business AI. It’s exciting for me to learn and apply innovative technologies.
  • People: A company is only as good as its staff, and Locus has always focused on hiring the best people no matter where they are. We have employees in five countries on three continents. I enjoy working with and learning from our top-notch developers, product managers, testers, and subject matter experts.
  • Service: Locus has always placed strong emphasis on meeting the needs of our customers. We strive to provide the best solutions and always work through any issues to ensure customer happiness. Our customer experience team members are some of the most helpful people around. It is important to me to be at a company with an ironclad focus on treating the customer fairly.
  • Stability: Of course, I could only have worked at Locus for 22 years because Locus has been around that long. Locus was founded in 1997 and is one of the few environmental data companies to last for so long. I appreciate the efforts of our founder and CEO, Neno Duplan, to keep Locus a great company for both employees and customers.

Locus will mark its 28th anniversary next month! I hope to be here for our 30th anniversary and beyond.

Locus is the only self-funded water, air, soil, biological, energy, and waste EHS software company that is still owned and managed by its founder. The brightest minds in environmental science, embodied carbon, CO2 emissions, refrigerants, and PFAS hang their hats at Locus, and they’ve helped us to become a market leader in EHS software. Every client-facing employee at Locus has an advanced degree in science or professional EHS experience, and they incubate new ideas every day – such as how machine learning, AI, blockchain, and the Internet of Things will up the ante for EHS software, ESG, and sustainability.
