Locus Announces Its Environmental SaaS Will Support Broader EHS Compliance Initiatives at a Top Oil & Gas Corporation

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., August 7, 2024Locus Technologies, the sustainability and Environmental Health Safety (EHS) compliance software leader, today announced that one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies elected to expand its worldwide Locus software license to include additional functionality, regions, and sites. This expansion includes Locus EIM for additional regions, Locus’ EHS compliance platform, and Locus’ purpose-built Waste Management application to provide a scalable, single system of record for enterprise-wide waste management. The implementation will span the company’s worldwide business units, commencing immediately in the US, followed by Africa in 2025, and the remainder of the company’s regions in 2026. This agreement follows a rigorous, six-month pilot deployment at a large refinery site, including thorough proof of concept testing, vendor capability analysis, and scalability and usability testing.

Under the new Master Service Agreement, the oil and gas company expanded its existing use of Locus EIM to also become the system of record for its environmental-based analytical laboratory and field data in Australia.

“Locus has supported this prestigious company with our flagship EIM software since 2003,” said Neno Duplan, Founder and CEO of Locus Technologies. “As they continue to prioritize environmental risk management and expand their EHS compliance and ESG initiatives, Locus is pleased to respond with enhanced technologies to drive data integrity, accessibility, and reporting across the enterprise with Locus Platform. We are pleased that one of our longest customers continues to recognize the power and scalability of the Locus SaaS solution and selected Locus as their system of record for waste management and compliance.”

Locus Technologies Successfully Completes SOC 1 and SOC 2 Audits

Locus becomes the only EHS Software provider with both valid verifications of its financials, operations, and security

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 30, 2024Locus Technologies, the only science-driven software company at the nexus of sustainability and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance, today announced the successful completion of its Type 2 SOC 1® and Type 2 SOC 2® audits as of July 5, 2024, for the period of July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. The company considers these more rigorous “type 2” audits and the subsequent third-party attestation reports to be further evidence of its leadership, integrity, and security in the EHS software and ESG reporting markets.

The SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits were conducted by leading compliance assessor A-LIGN, a technology-enabled security and compliance partner trusted by more than 2,500 global organizations to help mitigate cybersecurity risks.

“Organizations are drowning in ‘Big-environmental-Data’ and inadequate spreadsheets and home-built databases, so they are eager to move to an EHS Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) they can trust,” said Neno Duplan, Founder and CEO of Locus. “Our Type 2 SOC 1 and Type 2 SOC 2 verifications give companies the confidence they need to make the move to Locus, especially amid cybersecurity threats and an unstable climate of corporate consolidation in the EHS and ESG software markets. Locus remains independent—and independently verified.”

By adhering to the stringent requirements of System and Organization Controls (SOC) audits, Locus demonstrates its commitment to protecting sensitive customer data against cyber threats and operational failures. This builds trust with customers, assuring them that their data is secure and managed according to the highest industry standards and helps Locus comply with various regulatory requirements.

“Locus prides itself on helping customers be accurate and credible in their environmental, health, and safety monitoring and reporting. This is particularly true for ESG reporting where greenwashing is clouding the credibility of reporting. Earning current third-party validation of our own processes is an important way to demonstrate our credibility in the market,” continued Duplan.

Established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), SOC 1 is an examination of controls at a service organization that are likely to be relevant to user entities’ internal control over financial reporting; the SOC 2 examination is designed for organizations of any size, regardless of industry and scope, to ensure the personal assets of their potential and existing customers are protected. SOC reports are recognized globally and affirm that a company’s infrastructure, software, people, data, policies, financials, procedures, and operations have been formally reviewed.

“Congratulations to Locus Technologies for completing their SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits, a widely recognized signal of trust and security,” said Steve Simmons, COO of A-LIGN. “It’s great to work with organizations like Locus who understand the value of expertise in driving an efficient audit and the importance of a high-quality final report.”

Locus Technologies Celebrates 25 Years of Innovative EHS & ESG Software

Locus looks back on the last 25 years of pioneering EHS, ESG, and water quality software.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., 11 April 2022Locus Technologies, the leading EHS Compliance and ESG software provider, today celebrates the 25th anniversary of its founding, and with it, a quarter-century of customer success. Locus looks back on its founding as a Silicon Valley leader in EHS & ESG software with pride in its leadership through expertise, stability, and innovation.

Locus was founded in 1997 with a revolutionary vision that set the framework for what is now widely known as environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) and environmental, health, and safety (EHS). Locus envisioned a simplified and data-driven approach, offering software in the cloud, on mobile devices, and as a service. The company pioneered SaaS (Software as a Service) model in EHS, ESG, and water quality management spaces in 1999 and never installed its software on customers’ premises.

Over 25 years, Locus has pioneered cloud environmental solutions, online and mobile GIS (Geographic Information System) services, has revolutionized environmental information management, and AI and IoT technologies for organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies to forward-facing municipalities and the US Government.

Locus recently broke new ground by releasing the first Visual Calculation Engine for ESG Reporting. Locus’s visual calculation engine helps companies quickly set up and view their entire ESG data collection and reporting program, enabling full transparency and financial-grade auditability throughout the entire process.

As the industry continues to evolve, competitors merge and disappear. New markets emerge and grow. Locus remains a constant in the environmental space, an innovative and independent pioneer.

“For 25 years now, Locus has brought together industry-leading experts in EHS, sustainability, and technology. Although regulations and requirements have changed over the years, that combination remains at the core of what Locus does, as demonstrated by our stability and long-term customer partners. We look forward to continuing our path of growth using those same values for the next 25 years.” said Wes Hawthorne, Locus President.

Locus Founder and CEO, Neno Duplan is proud to look back on the growth of Locus over the last 25 years. He said, “Locus did not start in the clouds, but back in 1997, we had a rather good view. Locus’s vision for better global environmental stewardship has not changed since its inception. We focus on empowering organizations to track better and mitigate the environmental impact of their activities. That vision has come to fruition through the Locus software services used by some of the world’s largest companies and government organizations. Locus’ SaaS has been ahead of the curve in helping private and public organizations in not only managing their water quality, EHS compliance or ESG reporting but also turning their environmental information into a competitive advantage in their operating models.”

Locus Technologies releases new Waste Management in Locus Platform

The Locus waste management application is fully integrated with the dynamic Locus Platform and will automate waste management for small and large enterprises.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., 28 February 2017 — Locus Technologies (Locus), the leader in cloud-based environmental compliance and sustainability management software, introduces a powerful waste management application to Locus Platform. Our new waste management app redefines how companies organize and manage their waste profiles and support EPA reporting requirements for hazardous and non-hazardous waste. With the click of a button the platform will be able to generate waste manifests, shipping labels or other documents populated with data from your records. The Locus Platform, a true multi-tenant SaaS, presents a highly flexible, user-friendly interface to meet individual organizations’ environmental management needs.

Nearly everything that doesn’t leave your facility as a product eventually becomes waste that needs to be tracked, managed, disposed of, and reported. Regardless of hazardous, universal or recycling waste stream, Locus Platform is ready. Locus’ waste module brings an organized approach and workflow process to schedule, sample, and analyze results.

One of the standout features that Locus Platform offers is the ability to generate new waste profiles. The flexibility of the platform allows users to create these manually, link to Locus’ EIM system or a third party’s testing results. You will be able to quickly reuse existing profile sheets, only updating the changed information. The platform will help consolidate your profiles in containers or whole areas, and features built in maps to help your transporter know exactly where to go to pick up the ready waste. Users are able to manage the composition of profiles through adding multiple chemical components to the profiles and accounting for their make-up of the whole profile.

Locus Platform is ready out of the box to track waste at any number of locations. You are able to add or remove waste containers, storage locations, etc. from your generating facilities, and allow any user to create their own way of organizing their data by generating filtered dashboards. At the enterprise level powerful dashboards will help you understand how each facility is generating waste, and how it is being handled. With the platform’s flexibility, facility information can be automatically populated based on the user credentials, saving your team time and frustration.

With Locus Platform’s waste management module you will also have real-time insight into your generator status. If your facility is expecting growth we can help you understand when you may reach small quantity generator status, setting up notifications when you approach the threshold limit. Forms will also automatically adapt to a change in status, prompting users to provide different data points when your generator status has changed. The new waste application is fully mobile-enabled to track container location and ensure storage compatibility in satellite accumulation areas. When paired with Locus’ EIM system, the tool can also track all of the waste sampling and characterization processes, and use that information directly to generate waste profiles.

“Waste management processes require coordination between EHS managers, field staff, laboratories, TSD facilities, and other parties. For compliance purposes, it is critical to make sure that information is exchanged correctly and comprehensively between all of these entities in a timely manner. The Locus Platform gives you the notifications, mobile tools, and reporting tools to make waste management processes seamless for any organization. For companies that need to characterize hazardous waste and track detailed analytical data for profiling, this solution integrates directly with the Locus EIM system, giving an expanded toolset for validating and reviewing laboratory data.” said J. Wesley Hawthorne, President of Locus.

San Jose Water Company selects Locus Platform for environmental compliance management

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., 29 November 2016 — Locus Technologies (Locus), a leading provider of cloud-based software solutions to streamline EHS regulation and compliance management, has partnered with San Jose Water Company for an implementation of the Locus Platform.

San Jose Water Company is an investor-owned water utility that serves over one million people in the greater San Jose metropolitan area. San Jose Water Company has been a customer of Locus since 2014, and has been using Locus EIM and Locus Mobile for its drinking water compliance activities. After finding success with their EIM solution, San Jose Water Company is expanding its Locus usage to Locus Platform.

San Jose Water Company will take advantage of the flexibility of the Locus Platform to configure a range of environmental compliance apps for tracking and reporting water discharges and hazardous material inspections, helping Locus to further strengthen its position in the water utilities market. By choosing to build most of their applications themselves, San Jose is taking advantage of Locus Platform’s easy-to-use configuration workbench to create unique and effective solutions. They will be able to use Locus Platform to support compliance with EPA’s Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

In addition to tracking discharges and inspections, San Jose Water Company will use Locus Platform’s capabilities for reminders and checklists associated with other compliance requirements. They will also take advantage of Locus Platform’s built-in mobile features to enable their custom apps and streamline data collection throughout their various departments.

Locus Platform’s configurable solution will replace a range of self-built spreadsheet solutions and consolidate the water utility’s environmental compliance in one application. With the built-in configuration flexibility, San Jose Water Company’s Locus Platform will be able to grow and change as new regulatory requirements arise.

“Our recent successes in deploying our software solutions to customers in the water utility industry proves their versatile nature. San Jose Water Company needed a data management system that was tailored to their specific business practices. Locus introduces visual rule configuration to Locus Platform SaaS

The new visual rule configuration leverages the latest web technologies. We designed it to efficiently perform tasks in the software configuration process – without any programming. This helps Locus Platform customers meet rapidly changing EHS&S software requirements at lower cost.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., 18 October 2016 —

Locus Technologies (Locus), the leader in cloud-based environmental, sustainability, energy, and compliance management software, has once again expanded on the configurability of its cloud-based Locus Platform. Locus Platform is introducing new visual rule configuration, which allows users to conditionally change the behavior of fields within any form using a simple interface that requires no additional software code.

The system can be easily configured to make certain fields conditionally visible, editable, and required based on other information entered by the user. This makes data-dependent forms easy to construct for any application. This feature is available for all existing Locus Platform applications, as well as for customers building their own applications using the Platform’s configuration tools.

This new feature is pertinent to all EHS applications. System administrators are able to follow a simple setup wizard to create many kinds of dynamic input forms, such as collecting additional information if a user responds ‘no’ to an audit question, or displaying waste code options if a waste profile is categorized as hazardous. With visual rules, the these applications can now be reconfigured for any user without the need for any expensive software development.

With this functionality, Locus Platform emerges as a market leader in EHS&S rule management systems. The intuitive, graphical approach will make it popular with domain experts, as well as managers. EHS&S departments will be able to create and maintain business rules and to automate a wide variety of operational decisions specific to their organization, without needing any programming knowledge. Visual rule configuration reduces the time it takes to develop, implement, and update their applications, compared to traditional software.

“One of the great benefits of the Locus Platform has always been its configurability. Businesses don’t need to modify their practices and policies to fit an off-the-shelf EHS&S solution with predefined forms, features, and rules. Rather, the solution can be configured to their existing practices – without the need to ask a vendor to do it for them. And with the new visual rules feature, that configuration is easier than ever,” said Wes Hawthorne, President of Locus.

“Keeping the end users’ perspective in mind, we’ve packed the same 20-plus years of domain expertise that Locus has been offering into a highly configurable and scalable new software platform, built from the ground up using the latest web technologies,” remarked Neno Duplan, CEO of Locus.
